IGNOU to honour the Dalai Lama with Doctorate
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will host its 24th Convocation on September 5, 2011 in the main campus of the university at Maidan Garhi.
Dr. (Mrs.) D. Purandeswari, Minister of State for Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) and Mr. E. Ahamed, Minister of State (MOS) for Ministry of External Affairs and MHRD have conveyed their consent as chief guests.
On the same day the Dalai Lama will be awarded the degree of doctor of letters (Honoris Causa).
There are 1,04,168 students all over India who would be receiving their laurels this time.
The 24th convocation will be held at the Sanchar Kendra in IGNOU’s main campus at Maidan Garhi from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It will simultaneously be organised at the 44 regional centres (except Delhi-1, Delhi-2, Delhi-3 and Regional Centre-Noida) wherever the number of candidates attending the convocation is expected to be 50 or more.
Those students who have passed their examination in June 2011 Term- End Examination are eligible to receive their degrees in this convocation.
Degrees shall be distributed only upto 1:30 p.m. on the day of convocation and thereafter shall be sent by post. Students are requested to carry their identity card in order to get their degrees.
An exhibition will also be organised for the event wherein each Regional Centre of the capital will be participating along with the provision for career counselling facility which shall be provided with the help of professional agencies.
