IGNOU has entered into an MoU with Gothenburg University for setting up a new Institute of Culinary Arts

The IGNOU has entered into an MoU with Gothenburg University, Sweden, the oldest University in Europe, for setting up a new Institute of Culinary Arts. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Prof Ulf Hanning, Gothenburg University.

Prof VN Rajasekharan Pillai said, “There was an urgent need for capacity building in culinary arts to plug the rising demand for trained hospitality professionals, including chefs within the country. We will jointly collaborate in areas of preserving traditional recipes and practices of cooking .We envision international standards of certification and quality in the various programmes offered through the collaboration. This MoU will be followed by a number of partnerships with Gothenberg University in the areas of Science and Technology, Education and ICT.”

The degrees offered in the proposed culinary institute will span from diploma degrees, Bachelors degrees, Master degrees of MBA type and PhD degrees as well as short-term courses for persons working already in the sector. The degree programmes shall include at least one semester of restaurant training at bigger restaurants or hotels or alternatively training at food processing companies.

There are plans to start the diploma and degree programmes along with the launch of research projects. In due course, Master degrees and PhD degrees will also be initiated. IGNOU will have the main responsibility in delivering courses and programmes.

The Gothenburg University will assist in consultancy services and expertise-cum-collaboration; assist in recruiting guest teachers and professors and experts in the field at hand and in quality assessment.
