IGNOU launched a foundation course in Bhojpuri to promote the language.
Launching the course, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said, “Bhojpuri is not only a language but a lifestyle and a culture. Sanskrit and Latin have most precise grammar and vocabulary. Bhojpuri too has a very precise grammar, rich vocabulary and literature.”
Lauding IGNOU for launching the course, Kumar said Bhojpuri is now no more confined to some areas of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh but has spread to various parts of the world.
She said efforts were underway to get Bhojpuri recognised as an official language.
A Certificate Course and Diploma Course in Bhojpuri language will be started soon.
